Farewell do for Phil Lane

We say farewell to Managing Partner

The team at Whittingham Riddell met last month to celebrate Phil Lane retiring from his position as Managing Partner.

Phil joined the firm 35 years ago, and has held the post of Managing Partner for the past 18 years. During his time, Phil has been an active member of the local business community and has been instrumental in modernising and expanding the firm to what it is today. The business is one of the leading firms of Chartered Accountants and Business advisors in Shropshire and Wales and operates from modern, purpose-built offices in Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Newtown and Wrexham; employing close to 200 people locally.

The team and Phil’s family celebrated his retirement with a drinks reception at Hencote Vineyard, Shrewsbury. A gallery of these pictures can be seen below:

Phil commented: There haven’t been too many days in the past 35 years that I haven’t wanted to come to work at WR, because I loved my job and I enjoyed working with the people in the firm. I have been very fortunate to enjoy what I have done for so many years.”

For me, it’s the interaction with so many helpful people, the decision making and problem and solution finding. That authority and the ability to make a difference.”

“I leave the Partnership in a strong position and I am certain that Helen will lead them into a secure future. I wish the very best to all the people I have had the pleasure of meeting during my time.”

A true family man, Phil plans on spending more valuable time with his family and grandchildren. Phil will focus on a number of projects he has been planning for some time, but will also be on hand as a Consultant to support the partnership over the next 12 months during the initial transition.

Helen Spencer, HR Partner, who has worked closely with Phil over the past 14 years, succeeds Phil as Managing Partner from 1st April.
