Duncan is a law graduate, and has more than ten year's tax experience, having qualified as both a Chartered Tax Adviser and a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians. He passed top in the United Kingdom in his CTA professional examinations, taking the Institute medal, a Distinction and the Butterworth prize.
Duncan joined Whittingham Riddell in early 2005 from a Global "Big Four" firm, where he was advising a range of clients from Fortune 50 companies to UK trading companies.He was appointed an associate in 2007.
Duncan advises on all forms of taxation, including across all aspects of family owned businesses, capital gains tax reduction on property and business disposals, and family trusts, inheritance tax planning, as well as international taxes. Due diligence of acquisitions and structuring of corporate transactions and new ventures are a key part of his role. Each of these is often coupled with long-term savings for participants. This includes minimising current and fixture taxes for example by way of enterprise investment scheme reliefs for new ventures. Duncan assists the client service teams with Inland Revenue investigations on technical enquiries.
