We have learnt this week that £50m of funding, made available to PCTs to improve access and responsiveness in GP services, has either not been paid to GP practices within this framework or has been diverted to other initiatives such as GP led health centres and balanced score cards. Some PCTs have been unable to provide details of how money has been spent or appear to be unaware of the availability of the funding. In some areas this will have a significant impact on GP practices who are missing the opportunity to be properly rewarded for the work which they are doing or which they could be engaged to do. In view of the pressure on profits in GP practices we are very concerned for our clients.
